Cladonia arbuscula is a species of lichen that forms continuous mat-shaped cushions on top of all kind of mires -and even in many humid soils- in circumpolar regions of the northern and southern hemispheres. It is a kind of fruticose lichen, and like all lichens, it grows extremely slowly (<5 mm per year).
